Snaps + Rye – Proper Danish Food

Sitting nicely in the Top 20 of the Time Out London’s Top 100 Restaurants, Snaps + Rye is a Nordic restaurant serving up contemporary Danish food. Opened by a husband and wife team, their focus is on produce, provenance and offering proper Danish food. Their menus offers a unique selection of dishes ranging from salmon, eggs and rye bread to Kedegree and oats to eggs, rye and cheese. This is a perfect place for a weekend brunch, offering something different to your usual fry up.

Danish Fry

The Full Danish is their take on a full fry up and perfect for those who don’t want to move too far from their weekend rituals. Consisting on Bacon, liquorice syrup, Hog’s Pudding, spinach, tomatoes, pickled mushrooms and bloody Viking ketchup, the dish offers a unique taste while still satisfying your inner desires for a greasy Full English.

Mackerel

Their lunch menu is served between 12 and 3 and offers some proper Nordic dishes. “Sun Over Golborne” is an interesting take on a famous Danish dish “Sol over Gudhjem”. Gudhjem is a house in Bornholm, which is a beautiful island and known for its rogerier (smoking houses). Their smoked mackerel is delicately paired with egg yolk, pickled beetroot, capers and raddish. This is servered with a green salad which adds to this coloruful dish.

Meatballs

You cannot go to a Nordic restaurant and not try meatballs. The Pork Veal Frikadeller-Meatballs are soft and meaty and goes really well with the apple puree, saute potato and cheese. Although the cheese does cut across quite strongly, it is well balance with the puree and potatoes. Another tasty dish married with lots of different ingredients and great flavour combinations!

Hygge

The restaurant’s website provides an interesting definition to the word ‘Hygge’ – the Danish concept of cozyness created when enjoying good food, drinks and fireside times with dear friends and family’. The atmosphere and design in the restaurant, coupled with the fantastic food and company perfectly describes and satisfies this definition of hygge!
