Strut & Cluck – Middle Eastern Turkey

Eastern Mediterranean cuisine focusing on turkey, the bird.

When it comes to eating out in London, there is a distinct lack of restaurants offering  proper home cooked food. With the likes of Grub Club offering meals at people’s homes, there are little restaurants that offer proper family recipes and dishes.  Strut & Cluck  looks to cook healthy and home cooked meals while combining their family’s Eastern Mediterranean heritage. Their health conscious approach saw the family chef try out  healthier and leaner substitutes to chicken, with turkey. The restaurant offers great dishes with this super food, cooked with some delicious Eastern Mediterranean flavours.

Start the evening off with a selection of dishes from the roasted and tossed section of the menu. Smokey aubergine, tahini and zhoug are perfect combinations when scooped up with pitta, flavours that reminded me of Manou Ba Shouk in Jerusalem. You just cannot beat that combination. Enjoy this dish with their Charred Cauliflower and try something different with in the manouri Cheese, mixed with sesame and honey. Striking similarities with the classic dessert, kunafeh.

Turkey Turkey Turkey

Vegetarians will have to stay away from the other half of the menu, which consists of turkey. With free range birds sourced from nearby East Anglia, their drug free diets makes it an even healthier meal. On the bone meat is always tasty and Limor’s Classic slow-roast thigh was well spiced and marinated for 24 hours in a family spice and herb blend. This was accompanied with caramelised red onions and sweet potatoes, proving a very hearty meal.

However, the highlight of the meal was their crispy turkey bun. An eastern Mediterranean infused burger with crunch turkey, tapioca, spices, spicy tahini and cranberry slaw, all in a mouthful. The flavours were incredible and the crispy turkey really adds the extra texture and taste. Make sure you order this.

Perfectly Home Cooked

The emphasis on the ‘home’ can be seen by the decorations around the restaurant, especially with their framed photos.  All in all, this was a fantastic meal. The food was well cooked and it felt good to finally have a proper home cooked meal. On a side note, it was all healthy too.
